Natural Childbirth Classes

Our childbirth classes are a 3 class series. We focus on natural childbirth and allowing your body to progress the way it is intended. As midwives we teach how the woman’s body is made for pregnancy and childbirth, rarely allowing for any complications when allowed to progress naturally. The course allows you to see birth as a rite of passage that should be embraced and welcomed, not a painful experience to fear. We believe it is incredibly important for women and their partners to be educated about the process of labor & birth so they can enter with confidence.
1st Class – Our first class focuses on the anatomy and physiology of labor and birth. This includes how women’s bodies are made and how they work throughout the labor process. The babies are not forgotten when we teach of labor and delivery, as they are working just as hard in there to succeed at this huge task! Coping mechanisms during contractions are also taught, including visualization techniques and breathing.
2nd Class – The second class teaches about nutrition, exercise and possible complications that may arise. This is also the time we address any fears you may have of childbirth so you can release them before birth time. During this class we will also go over myths of childbirth, breathing techniques and pushing techniques. We also discuss what to expect when labor begins, whether you chose a homebirth, birth center, or hospital birth, we touch on what to expect at each.
3rd Class – The third and final class we will teach about breastfeeding basics, newborn care including bathing, caring for the umbical cord, changing diapers, etc. This class is taught by our IBCLC Sandra Lobaina.

Babywearing 101

Know you want to wear your baby (or toddler, or preschooler) but unsure which carrier would be best for you?
Prefer not to carry your baby in the heavy car seat?
Planning an outing where a stroller is not convenient?
Just want to have two hands free to get some housework done?
With so many carriers on the market....how do I choose what's right for me?

This class is for those who have little to no babywearing knowledge, and would like an up close and personal environment in which to discover and understand the different types and workings of carriers, as well as learn how to use each of them safely. The carriers used in the class will include ring slings, woven wraps, stretchy wraps, mei tais, and soft-structured carriers. We will cover which type is best for different ages and stages, learn the pros and cons of each type of carrier, and see how each one is put on from start to finish. You will also learn where you can get each type of carrier, and why big box stores are not always the best option for buying a carrier.

Our goal is for you to feel comfortable and informed with all of your options, and to make the best decision for your family.
The class ends with a question and answer session as well as hands on "get up and feel/try on/play" with various types of carriers so you leave with a better understanding of which carrier will suit your family best.

The class will be taught by Martha Lerner of zenmamalove.
Cost: $30 for individuals, $40 for couple.

Big Latch On 2017 at Natural BirthWorks!

Big Latch On 2017

We are so excited to be hosting, for the 5th year, the Big Latch On! This year is special as we will be hosting 2 locations, one in Broward and one in Miami. This event is for the homebase, Natural BirthWorks.

Global Big Latch On events aim to protect, promote & support breastfeeding families by:
Provide support for communities to identify and grow opportunities to provide on-going breastfeeding support and promotion in local communities.
Raise awareness of breastfeeding support and knowledge available locally and globally.
Help communities positively support breastfeeding in public places.
Make breastfeeding as normal part of day-to-day life at a local community level.
Increase support for women who breastfeed – women are supported by their partners, family and their communities.
Ensure communities have the resources to advocate for coordinated appropriate and accessible breastfeeding support services.
Global Big Latch On events are highly successful, targeted community development initiatives that raise awareness of breastfeeding, encourage the formation of support networks between breastfeeding persons, and aim to normalize breastfeeding as a part of daily life.
